Computing

Our Intent
At Eye CE Primary School we are dedicated to providing high quality Computing Education for our children. We believe that all of our children should develop a love of Computing as well as be confident to learn and develop new skills. We aim to teach our computing curriculum through all of our lessons across the curriculum and not just stand alone computing lessons. We ensure all our children are equipped with the skills they need to stay safe in the digital world we live in.
How do we teach it?
At Eye Primary C of E Primary School, we teach Computing through the Teach Computing curriculum. We have a vast amount of technology which allows all children to take part in weekly Computing lessons as well as enabling us to use Computing in a variety of lessons. We ensure that e-safety is part of every Computing session we teach so this information sticks.
Our Progression in Computing document ensures all three areas of Computing are covered in every year group.
These areas are Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy.
The core of Computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate- able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology- at level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.
The National Curriculum 2013
Computer Science is taught through unplugged, concrete and abstract lessons.
Unplugged
Children are taught the concepts of programming in a way in which they can relate to. These activities do not include any technology and should be practical. It is important to emphasise the key vocabulary at this point.
Concrete
Reinforce the same concepts as previously taught using the vocabulary and visuals of digital coding.
Abstract
Introduce plugged activities using apps and websites to use the knowledge gained from the previous lessons.
How do we assess Computing at Eye?
We assess Computing in different ways at Eye and ensure we assess throughout the learning journey.
These include:
Here are some useful apps you can use to support you with your learning at home.

Girls4tech event
On Tuesday 15th November 2022 we went to Mastercard in Hampton to attend an event called girls4tech.
We took part in lots of different tech based activities including fraud detection, algorithms and big data. During the fraud detection activity we listened to different samples of music and had to choose which one we thought was fraud.
Mastercard kindly gave us a lanyard, a t.shirt, a pen, a wristband and some badges to remember our special day.
Here are some quotes from some of the children who attended
“It was fun and extraordinary. The activities were amazing. Everyone who worked there was very kind to us.”
“We completed lots of different activities. It was fun and you definitely wouldn’t get bored at this event.”
