Physical EducationGiving our children the ability to obtain a healthy mind and body. |
At Eye CE Primary School, we believe that children should be active throughout each day. We provide a wealth of experiences to encourage positive attitudes towards sport and ensure that children have access to high quality sports instruction. Through PE lessons and sporting opportunities, children can develop key skills such as resilience, communication, teamwork, respect and sportsmanship and acquire the knowledge to understand how to live a healthy life.
The PE coordinators are Mr Lawlor and Miss Howsam if you have any queries.
At Eye CE Primary School, we believe that as our children progress through the school, their skills and knowledge should also be built upon.
EYFS
Our aim is for the children to show good control and coordination through a range of different movements, including how they handle equipment and tools - such as a pencil for writing - and travel through the space safely.
We aim for the children to know the importance of being healthy. Making sure that they are aware of good physical exercise, having a healthy diet and discussing the ways to keep healthy and safe. We encourage the importance of the children to manage their own basic hygiene and personal needs successfully, including dressing and going to the toilet independently.
Year 1 and 2 (KS1)
As the children progress to KS1, the children are taught to develop the skills learnt in EYFS to extent their agility, balance and coordination, individually and with others confidently. It is important that the children are able to engage in competitive (both against self and against others) and cooperative physical activities, in a range of increasingly challenging situations.
During these years, the children will learn to master basic movements such as running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination, and begin to apply these in a range of activities. They will take part in team games and perform dances using simple movement patterns.
Year 3,4,5 and 6 (KS2)
As the children progress up the school, the children will apply and develop all they have learnt so far. They will experience and enjoy communicating, collaboration and competing with each other to make actions and sequences of movement. During this time, they will also learn how to evaluate and recognise their own successes.
Here, at Eye CE Primary School, we make sure the children receive a wide range of experiences during their PE lessons. This includes...
Invasion Games | Field/Striking Games | Dance |
Football | Rounders | Athletics |
Rugby | Cricket | Gymnastics |
Netball | Net/Racket Games | Swimming |
Basketball | Badminton | Orienteering |
Hockey | Tennis |

At Eye, we take pride in the fantastic opportunity of having an on-site swimming pool. Over the 7 years that the children spend at Eye, they each have the opportunity to learn how to swim - a vital life skill. This experience will see them gaining confidence not only in the water, but also knowing they can face any challenges put in front of them.
We believe that is is vitally important that the children here have as many incredible experiences as possible, allowing them to thrive and grow in confidence.
Throughout their time at Eye, we take part in a range of Football and Hockey tournaments at other establishments to give the children those experiences that ignite challenge, determination, teamwork and self confidence.
PE at Eye 2021 - 2022
So far this year we have really enjoyed taking part in dance, gymnastics and orienteering in KS1! We have also been practicing our ball skills during netball lessons.
